Ai Torii : Potter with special yellow glaze "Yellow Star Forest"
In Tokoname City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan, a kyusu"pot"for green tea called "YAKISHIME" is famous, which expresses the warm texture of the soil without glaze.
She mixes white clay with black grains and various kinds of soil, then places shells caught on the beach of Tokoname and bakes using "YAKISHIME" technique to show scarlet and earthy taste which appears on the outside of her pottery.
The inside of her work is finished with a pop and calm look with a yellow glaze that changes to gloss, matte or crystal depending on the condition of the flame in the kiln at that time. She calls her group of yellow works "Yellow Star Forest" in german because it looked like a yellow planet. It's fun to think about the menu whether to make the plate pop or chic, and even if you put your usual meal on it, the atmosphere will change and it's a fun plate.
